Your merged PDF is ready.
Download merged.pdfThe steps
- Press Choose files and pick both PDFs. In most file pickers you hold Ctrl or Cmd to select two. You can also drop both files on the box.
- Look at the list. The file at the top becomes the first pages of the result.
- If they are the wrong way round, press the up or down arrow on a row, or drag a file by its ☰ handle.
- Press Merge PDFs, then press Download merged.pdf.
Which one goes first
Decide before you press anything. The first file's pages come first and the second file's pages follow straight after. A cover letter goes before the CV it introduces; a form goes before its attachment. Naming the files 01 and 02 before you add them usually puts them in the right order from the start. More in changing the order before merging.
What to check in the result
- Page count. It should equal the two files added together: a 3-page file and a 5-page file give 8 pages.
- The join. Go to the last page of the first file and check that the second file starts right after it.
- Size. About the two sizes added together, because nothing is compressed.
Your two originals are never changed, so keep them until you have looked through merged.pdf.
When two files are too big
The free limit is 20MB in total per merge. Files of 12MB and 10MB come to 22MB, so the tool offers Pro instead of merging. Fewer files does not help here; the total size is what counts. Make the files smaller at the source, for example by scanning at a lower resolution, or read merging large PDF files.
What this does not do
It joins whole files only: you cannot pick pages from either one. A password-protected file stops the merge with an error. Only PDFs are accepted; other file types are skipped with a message.
