Merge scanned PDFs into one document

Scans saved as PDF merge like any other PDF. The pages are copied as they are.

How merging works with scans

A scanned PDF is usually a set of page images. Merging copies those pages into the new file unchanged, so the merged document looks like the originals, in the order you chose.

File size

Because nothing is re-compressed, the merged file is about as big as the scans added together. The free version allows 20MB in total per merge. If your scans are large, set your scanner or scanning app to a smaller-file or lower-resolution option before scanning. This tool does not compress files.

Searchable text

This tool does not run text recognition. A scan that was already searchable keeps its text when merged; a scan that was image-only stays image-only.

Getting the page order right

If your scanner made one PDF per page or per document, name the files 01, 02, 03 and so on before adding them, then check the list. You can reorder with drag and drop or the arrow buttons before you merge.

Pro is Hexloom Pro, $29 a year or $4 a month, one subscription for every Hexloom tool. It removes the 5 file and 20MB limits. There is no account: Pro unlocks the browser you subscribe in, and the confirmation page has a link to restore it elsewhere.
