Download merged.pdfWhat we tested
We tested the merge on desktop Chromium (the browser engine in Chrome and Edge). We have not tested on a real Chromebook. This tool uses JavaScript in the browser and is expected to work on a Chromebook because Chromebooks run Chrome, but we cannot promise it since we have not tested it ourselves.
Steps on your Chromebook
- Open this page in your Chromebook's Chrome browser.
- Press Choose files. This opens the Files app picker; select your PDFs (up to 5 files, 20MB in total per merge).
- Check the list on the screen. Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons, or drag by the ☰ handle, to put them in the right order. Press ✕ to remove a file if you selected the wrong one.
- Press Merge PDFs, then Download merged.pdf.
- The file is saved to your Downloads folder (usually), and you can open, rename or move it from the Files app.
Where downloads go
Merged PDFs usually go to your Downloads folder on the Chromebook. You can open the Files app and look in the Downloads folder, or press Ctrl+J in Chrome to see a list of everything you have downloaded recently. From there you can open, rename, or move the file to another folder.
Memory limits on some Chromebooks
Chromebooks with less memory may run out of space during a big merge and the operation may fail. If the merge does not finish or the tab crashes, try merging fewer files at once or close other tabs and apps first to free up memory. The free limit is 5 files and 20MB per merge. If you have many files to merge, merge them in batches and combine the results.
What this does not do
It does not convert non-PDF files, compress, add page numbers, or edit text. Photo or image files are skipped with a message. It is expected to work on Chromebooks because they run Chrome, but we tested only desktop Chromium, not a real Chromebook. On a laptop instead? Merging on Mac, Windows and Linux is covered too.
