Get each piece into a PDF

Many scanning apps save one PDF per page or per sheet; some save the whole stack as one file, which needs no merging. Export your typed document to PDF from your word processor. This tool does not convert photos, so a picture file has to be exported to PDF first. If your phone photos are big, shrink them with the free image compressor before turning them into PDFs. It works on JPG, PNG and WebP images, not on PDFs.

Name the files 01, 02, 03

Use two digits: 01_typed-answers.pdf, 02_sheet-1.pdf, 03_sheet-2.pdf. Without the leading zero, an alphabetical list puts 10 before 2.

Merge them

  1. Press Choose files and pick everything.
  2. Check the list. Reorder with the arrow buttons if needed.
  3. Press Merge PDFs, then press Download merged.pdf.

Open the result and check every page is there and the right way up. If a scan is sideways, fix it in your scanning app and scan that page again.

Check the size before you upload

Check the course site's rules for file size and format. The merged file is about the sum of its parts, because nothing is compressed. Example: 8 scanned sheets of about 1.5MB each make 12MB, and a typed document of 0.5MB brings it to 12.5MB, under the 20MB free total. That is 9 files, and the free limit is 5 files per merge, so merge files 1 to 5 first, then merge that result with files 6 to 9 (5 files in all). Rename the first download so you can tell them apart.

What this does not do

It does not compress, convert photos, or reorder pages inside a file. It gives no advice on grading or deadlines; follow the course site's instructions for those. For more on scans, see merging scanned PDFs.
