Download merged.pdfCheck the portal first
Before you merge anything, read what the application form says about the file it takes: the format, the maximum size, sometimes the page count. This tool cannot tell you what a particular employer or portal requires, so check what the person or portal asking for the file accepts, then merge to match.
Prepare and name the files
Every file must already be a PDF. Export your CV and cover letter from your word processor as PDF, because this tool does not convert Word files or photos. Name the files so they sort in reading order:
- 01-cover-letter.pdf
- 02-cv.pdf
- 03-certificates.pdf
If the posting names an order, follow it. If it does not, cover letter first is one sensible choice, but it is yours to make.
Merge them
- Press Choose files and select your PDFs (up to 5 files and 20MB in total per merge).
- Check the list. Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons, or drag by the ☰ handle, until it reads in the right order. Press ✕ to remove a wrong file.
- Press Merge PDFs, then Download merged.pdf.
- Rename merged.pdf to something a recruiter will recognize, such as Jane-Smith-application.pdf.
Check the result
Open the file and count pages. A 1-page cover letter, a 2-page CV and 3 pages of certificates should give a 6-page file (1 + 2 + 3). Flip through it for anything missing or upside down, then compare its size with the portal's limit. Nothing is compressed, so the size is about the sum of the parts; here is what to do about large files.
Personal documents and privacy
A CV and certificates carry personal details. The files are not uploaded: the merge runs in your browser tab, and you can check that yourself. Your originals are not changed. The merged file lands in your downloads, so delete it when you no longer need it.
What this does not do
It does not shrink files, edit text, add page numbers or fix layout. A password-protected PDF stops the merge with an error. Bookmarks, form fields and the document title may not carry over.
