Prepare the PDFs for printing

If you are printing multiple documents, merge them into one file first. This saves you from managing separate print jobs. Export each document as a PDF (from a word processor, design app, or saved scans), then merge them in the order you want them printed.

Pages stay their original size

The merge copies pages as they are, with no resizing or recompression. If you merge a Letter file (8.5 by 11 inches) and an A4 file (210 by 297 millimeters), the Letter pages stay Letter and the A4 pages stay A4. A printer or print viewer may scale pages differently: it might fit each to the paper size, or crop or leave margins. Always check your print preview before printing everything.

Check the print preview

After you download merged.pdf, open it in your printer software or PDF viewer, then print to a preview (or to PDF again, or to a printer with a preview mode). Look at the first few pages and the last few:

If something looks wrong, go back to the original PDFs: the merge does not change colour, add bleeds, flatten layers, or crop marks, so the cause is more likely in the source files or the print settings.

Check the page count

Count pages in each original PDF and add them together to confirm your merge is complete. A 10-page document plus a 5-page cover plus a 3-page appendix should total 18 pages (10 + 5 + 3). This tells you whether a file is missing or was added twice by accident.

Fonts and images copy as stored

The merge copies pages without re-rendering them, so fonts and images are preserved as they are in the original PDFs. If an image is low resolution or a font is embedded poorly in the original, it stays that way in the merged file. Fix image quality and font issues in the original PDF before merging.

What this does not do

It does not change colour, add bleeds, crop marks, page numbers or a table of contents. It does not rotate pages, resize them or flatten layers. A password-protected PDF stops the merge with an error. Bookmarks, form fields and the document title may not carry over. Print quality depends on the original PDFs, not the merge.
